Rainfall warning issued for:
  • East Vancouver Island - Courtenay to Campbell River, B.C. (081330)
  • Sunshine Coast, B.C. (082300)

Heavy rain is expected on Friday into Saturday.

Where: East Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River, and the Sunshine Coast

When: Friday and Saturday.

What: Storm totals near 50 mm with locally higher amounts of 50 to 80 mm between Bukley Bay and Qualicum Bay, and for areas northwest of Campbell River.

Hazards:

- Water pooling on roads
- Swollen rivers and creeks
- Minor coastal flooding

Remarks: A strong fall storm system will direct an atmospheric river towards the South Coast, bringing heavy rain to the region. Rain will begin Friday morning and intensify through the afternoon, with the heaviest rain expected Friday night. Rain should ease early Saturday morning on Vancouver Island and Saturday afternoon on the Sunshine Coast, though a second pulse of rain is expected Sunday.

Ahead of the storm, ensure that drains are clear of leaves and debris and secure loose objects.

  • Sea to Sky - Squamish to Whistler, B.C. (080036)

Heavy rain expected on Friday into Saturday.

Where: Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound and sections of the Sea-to-Sky highway south of Whistler.

When: Friday and Saturday.

What: Storm totals of 40 to 70 mm are expected in Metro Vancouver, 70 to 100 mm possible in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, and higher amounts potentially exceeding 100 mm over the North Shore Mountains.

Hazards:
- Water pooling on roads
- Swollen rivers and creeks
- Minor coastal flooding
