Latest Alert For: VIR

Strong outflow winds are expected.

When: Late overnight through Saturday.

Where: Mainland valleys and inlets of the North and Central Coasts.

Peak winds: Northeast outflow winds near 90 km/h.

Remarks:
A ridge of high pressure building over interior BC combined with a low pressure system approaching the BC coast on Friday will generate very strong outflow winds through mainland valleys and inlets.

Northeasterly outflow winds will strengthen late overnight to Friday morning reaching 90 km/h. Strong outflow winds ranging from 70 to 90 km/h are expected to persist through Friday night and Saturday. As the low weakens and moves offshore, outflow winds will gradually ease below wind warning criteria Saturday overnight.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Another wind storm on Friday, less intense than the last one.

When: Late morning to evening on Friday.

Where: West Vancouver Island.

Peak wind gusts: 90-110 km/h from the southeast.

Remarks: Another fall storm is forecast to impact West Vancouver Island on Friday. An area of low pressure will deepen off the Washington coast tonight. This low is forecast to move northwards and approach Vancouver Island on Friday.

Southeasterly winds will increase through the day on Friday, with peak wind speeds expected from late morning to evening hours. Strong winds will ease Friday night or early Saturday.

While this low is not as intense as the major storm that affected the area on Tuesday and Wednesday, and peak wind speeds are forecast to be generally lower, strong winds may still cause damage and disruptions, and slow down clean up efforts.

Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
