Extreme cold warning issued for:
  • Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region, Ont. (043220)
  • Barrie - Orillia - Midland, Ont. (044100)
  • Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus, Ont. (046510)

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Temperatures have dropped quicker than anticipated this evening. The colder temperatures in combination with the winds is leading to wind chill values near minus 30. The wind chill values will moderate Sunday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Synthetic and wool fabrics provide good insulation.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warning continued for:
  • Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls, Ont. (049520)
  • Kirkland Lake - Englehart, Ont. (049710)

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Very cold wind chills approaching minus 40 are expected overnight into Sunday morning. Temperatures are expected to moderate through the day on Sunday.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours.

Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
